Accountific’s Founder Takes the Stage Both Days at Western Canada’s New Foodservice and Hospitality Expo

We’ve got some news we’re genuinely excited about. David Monteith, our founder, is speaking at the NEXT Foodservice + Hospitality Expo in Calgary this September, and not just once. He’s on the stage both days.

If you run a restaurant, a café, a bar, or any kind of food business in Western Canada, this is one to put in the calendar now.

What is NEXT Food Expo?

NEXT bills itself as Western Canada’s new B2B foodservice and hospitality expo, and it’s built for exactly the people Accountific works with: chefs, restaurateurs, hoteliers, bartenders, buyers, and operators. It’s less a traditional trade show and more a mix of exhibitors, live demos, competitions, and education stages, all pointed at where the industry is heading.

There’s a reason it’s landing in Calgary. Western Canada’s foodservice market is growing faster than most of the country, and Calgary in particular has seen dining-out spending climb sharply over the past few years. The show is meeting that momentum head-on, and the speaker roster reflects it, with names from Restaurants Canada, Sysco, Beyond Meat, and some of Calgary’s most recognized operators all on the program.

It runs September 13 and 14, 2026, at the BMO Centre, 10 am to 4 pm both days, with a mixer after day one.

David’s workshop: Where the Margin Went

David is running a workshop called Where the Margin Went: Fixing the Numbers Inside Food and Beverage, and because it’s a favourite topic of ours, he’s delivering it both days.

It’s a working session, not a lecture. The heart of it is menu costing: how to cost your big-ticket, high-volume dishes quickly, get to a real number, and price against it with confidence. From there it’s about the numbers underneath the plate, the places margin quietly leaks out of a food business, and how to see them before they cost you.

For operators who’ve never costed a dish from the ingredients up, or who costed the menu at open and haven’t touched it since, this is a fast way into a skill that protects your margins. You can catch it on Sunday, September 13 from 1:00 to 1:30 PM, or Monday, September 14 from 1:45 to 2:15 PM, both in the Business Basics Workshop, Speaker Room 2.

The main stage panel: The Future of Financials in Foodservice

On Monday, September 14 at 11:45 AM, David joins the main stage for a panel called The Future of Financials in Foodservice.

It’s a wider conversation about where the money side of the industry is heading, the tools, the habits, and the shifts that will separate the operators who thrive from the ones who just get by. If you want the big-picture view before you go deep in the workshop, this is the one to catch.

Come say hello

This is a big moment for David and for Accountific, and we’d love to see familiar faces in the room. If you’re planning to be at NEXT, or you’re on the fence and want more information, reach out to David directly. He’s happy to share session details, help you plan your two days, or just connect while you’re both there.
